China's Luxury Automotive Giant Hongqi Officially Enters Nepal
Nepal's premium electric vehicle market is set to welcome a new entrant as Hongqi, one of China's most recognized luxury automotive brands, prepares to make its official debut in the country.
The brand is expected to be unveiled at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, scheduled to take place from August 11 to 16 at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu. The event is expected to feature dozens of automotive brands and several new vehicle launches.
Hongqi, which translates to "Red Flag," is the premium vehicle division of FAW Group, one of China's oldest and largest automobile manufacturers. The brand has a long history in China and is widely known for producing vehicles used by senior government officials and state leaders. In recent years, Hongqi has expanded its focus beyond traditional luxury sedans and has invested heavily in electric mobility and global market expansion.
In Nepal, Hongqi will be represented by Advanced Automobile Pvt. Ltd. The company has already signed the official dealership agreement and is preparing for the brand's market introduction. Reports indicate that the first batch of vehicles has already been imported ahead of the public launch.
According to industry reports, Hongqi is expected to showcase the E HS4 and the flagship E HS9 electric SUVs during its initial launch. However, the company has not yet officially announced the final Nepal specifications, variants, pricing, or delivery timeline.
Among the expected models, the Hongqi E HS9 stands out as the brand's flagship electric SUV. Globally, the E HS9 is positioned as a full size luxury electric SUV and features a spacious cabin, advanced technology, and premium comfort features. Official Hongqi specifications show that the vehicle measures 5,209 mm in length and has a wheelbase of 3,110 mm. Depending on the market and variant, battery capacities and driving range figures may vary. The largest battery option available globally is rated at 120 kWh, with a WLTP range of up to 515 km.
The E HS9 has been introduced in several international markets as part of Hongqi's broader global expansion strategy. The company has also been increasing its presence across Asia and other regions through new distributor partnerships and right hand drive vehicle programs.
Hongqi's arrival reflects the continuing evolution of Nepal's electric vehicle industry. The market has grown rapidly in recent years, with consumers gaining access to a wider range of electric vehicles across different price segments. The addition of a luxury focused brand such as Hongqi gives buyers another option in the premium electric SUV category.
More details regarding vehicle specifications, pricing, warranty coverage, and availability are expected to be announced during the official launch at the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026. Until then, the debut of Hongqi remains one of the most anticipated automotive developments in Nepal's EV market this year.
